How to Charter a Yacht
How to Charter a Yacht
Chartering a yacht is one of the most luxurious and freeing ways to travel. Just you, your guests, and the open water. Whether it’s your first time or you’re looking to elevate your next holiday on the water, understanding how yacht charter works will help you get the most out of the experience.
Here’s a simple breakdown of how to charter a yacht, from the initial enquiry to stepping onboard.

Step 1: Define the kind of trip you want
Start with the basics. Where do you want to go, the Balearics, Croatia, the South of France? Are you dreaming of a slow, scenic cruise or something more fast-paced and adventurous?
Also consider how many people will be onboard, the time of year, and whether you want a crewed charter (most do) or something more hands-on. This will help us narrow down the best yacht options and itineraries for your trip.
Step 2: Set your budget
Charter prices vary based on the yacht’s size, location, and season. Expect to see rates quoted per week, and keep in mind there are additional costs like fuel, food, drinks, dockage, and crew gratuities. Most charters run under an MYBA (Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association) contract or similar, where the base charter fee covers the yacht and crew, and everything else is handled through an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). You then also have to add on your local tax - and don't forget the tip for the crew!
We’ll help you understand what’s included and plan within your comfort zone, whether that’s €20,000 or €200,000 per week.
Step 3: Choose the right yacht
This is where things get fun. Based on your preferences and budget, we’ll present you with a shortlist of available yachts, each with its own unique layout, design, crew style, and onboard features.
Looking for a beach club, jet skis, a chef who can handle plant-based cuisine, or a kid-friendly setup? We’ll find the right match for your group and vibe.
Step 4: Confirm the booking and sort the paperwork
Once you’ve picked your yacht, we’ll draft the charter agreement. You’ll pay a deposit (usually 50%) to secure the dates, and the rest closer to departure. The APA is usually 25–35% of the charter fee and covers provisions, fuel, mooring fees, etc. If there’s money left over, it’s refunded. If it goes over, you’ll top it up. APA is also paid pre-departure.
Step 5: Personalise your itinerary
Before the charter, we’ll send you a preference sheet to fine-tune your experience. From food and drink to water toys, excursions, and daily routines, the crew will tailor everything around your group.
Want to anchor in a private cove for sunset drinks? No problem. Looking for the best beach clubs or diving spots? We’ve got it covered.
Step 6: Step aboard and enjoy
The best part. You arrive at the marina, the crew welcomes you with a drink, and your yacht charter begins. Everything’s taken care of, and your only job is to relax, explore, and make the most of life at sea. Anything you need while you are on your charter the crew are there to take care of it!
